me, moi & moi-meme

Hello! My name is S.

I spent my childhood playing hide and seek and sneaking behind my parents’ back to fish in the sewer in Jakarta, Indonesia but I call Singapore home. This is where I found out that the world is much larger than I imagine it to be. And much, much smaller. Ha!

I like to think Chinese is my 3rd language, but sadly my French and Portuguese are sidling it to a distant memory.

One tarot reading eon years ago, I was told that there’s a river in my life. That he saw me traveling & moving around. I have always thought he was referring to my new job back then. I never knew that I would really live out of a suitcase.

These days, I am based in Paris, France.

  1. Hi S, your latest post makes it sound like you are leaving Angola. Where to next? Your story is so interesting, and I’ve enjoyed your posts while your where in Angola.

    1. Hey Ian, yes, we are leaving Angola next week and we’re heading to Paris this time round.
Thank you for your kind words. I can’t wait to get proper ingredients and try your recipes. I need to get my hands on those sambal ulek fast!

  2. Thanks for the response. I know that Indonesians don’t normally cook with sambal ulek, but in the US, it’s a great substitute for Lombok or other red Indonesian chilies. Good luck in Paris, the “city of lights.!”

    1. Ugh I’m so disappointed I didn’t know about Socca before I went to Nice. Thank you for letting me know. I can’t wait to make this, apparently it’s also good enough to eat on its own (The Kitchn & David Lebovitz have couple other recipes as well).

    1. Hey David, as long as they are food photos (which means they are mine), sure. Non food photos, I have to ask the photographers. Would appreciate if you can link back to this site too.

      Good luck with your apps!

  3. Hi!! It’s been quite a while since you have posted anything. Hope all is well and you are enjoying your time in France. Come back soon!

    1. Hi Luisa! Good to hear from you. Truth is I’m pregnant 🙂 so I haven’t enjoyed eating nor stepped in the kitchen much. I’ve been moaning and complaining a lot actually, but I’m warming up to the idea. I’ll post soon. Hope all is well with you and happy thanksgiving!

  4. How sweet, what wonderful news!! Congratulations to you both!! I look forward to sharing in your new ‘adventures’ in cooking. Be well!!
